Volunteer and Internship Experiences
Development Together is committed to providing our participants with a fresh approach to travel. We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of our partnerships and incorporating principles of sustainable development in the real life experiences our participants have. These values are more than just words on a page; they are ingrained in the culture and daily operations of Development Together.
We help match each participants skills and abilities to the most appropriate project. We provide relevant and informative information that covers; project goals, costs, itineraries, culture, health and safety, policies and procedures to enhance the participant’s placement.
We hold annual reviews with our partners to check how specific projects are progressing and how we can best continue to support them. We undertake strict monitoring to ensure our partners align with our ethos of ethical and sustainable development.
We aim to spend the majority of participant fees in-country to support the volunteer or intern placement. This encourages economic development in some of the most financially troubled countries in the world. Development Together pledges to distribute 20% of annual profits with our not-for-profit partner organisations on projects that meet our economic management targets. We pride ourselves on being honest, truthful and open when making financial and economic decisions and welcome anyone to review our financial, operational, and program documents.
We encourage our participants to be sensitive to and respect local cultures and customs, and take the time to get to know locals. This enhances participants cultural understanding of traditional practices and beliefs. We provide specific pre-departure briefings, along with in-country orientation sessions, to develop participants cultural experience. We encourage our participants to consider implementing responsible travel practices to minimise their impact whilst on their placement and we have developed a Responsible Travel Policy for them to review prior to departure which has great tips and advice to minimise their environmental footprint.
